Small Business Storytelling Training

Use strategic storytelling to develop a brand, sales and content strategy that gets attention.

About This Training

Telling the story of your product or service is essential in a world where information and attention is at a premium. To make your work stand out, you need to develop a strategic framing, so you quickly and effectively help customers and colleagues get it — and you.

Small Business Storytelling Training helps founders and employees in small businesses find, tell and measure the effectiveness of their business storytelling.

In this highly experiential training, you’ll learn the basics of storytelling by watching movie clips on YouTube and discussing the underlying patterns that naturally grab human attention. Next, you’ll dig into your business to identify the most compelling aspects of your story, which you’ll immediately put into practice by workshopping one of your key storytelling tools, such as sales materials, an About Me bio or a landing page.

As you practice telling your story in these contexts, you’ll learn to think about other storytelling tools you can use to build your brand and increase your sales without having to waste a lot of time developing content. You’ll leave the workshop with a new version of your story which you can immediately test with your target audiences, as well as the foundation of a content strategy which you can use to roll your story out.

  • Frame what you do so that people really get it
  • Differentiate your products and services
  • Tell your story effectively and inexpensively in your real-world location and online
  • Develop a storytelling action plan
  • Learn how to use online tools to validate your direction and identify new opportunities for growth.

Why Business Storytelling?

A radically authentic way of creating genuine brand engagement

We all tell stories in order to make sense of the world in which we live. By teaching us to set context, identify key characters and describe an emotional journey, storytelling helps us relate to each other on a human level, breaking down the boundaries and power structures of traditional organizations and reinforcing values of inclusion, collaborative work and empathy.

Get Storytelling's Blueprint

Story is our DNA. Learn the practical, easy-to-understand and timeless storytelling frameworks that apply equally to movies, award-winning ad campaigns and your most important business communications.

Develop a Story Database

Good storytellers create a database of practiced, refined stories ready for any professional scenario. Mine your professional story and transform what you find into attention-grabbing story gold.

Prototype, Test, Adjust, Repeat

Turn story from fluff to strategy. Use the same iterative, data focused process used be tech development teams and build robust storytelling metrics that let you clearly calculate your story ROI.

Design Thinking Exercises

We all tell stories in order to make sense of the world. By teaching us to set context, identify key characters and describe a journey of change, storytelling provides us with an emotional  language that can engage our audiences clearly and meaningfully. Using the tools we acquire through storytelling, we inspire meaningful work, reinforce shared values and generate the powerful connections with customers, employees and colleagues that lead to growth.

At a more profound level, the stories we tell ourselves often contain limiting ideas that can compromise our progress. Telling a different story is what breeds hope. By courageously addressing the questions raised through storytelling, we can break down legacy power structures, heal old wounds and restore an optimistic vision of a just and balanced world.

Story teaches us that it’s the process, not the destination that matters; by following this heroic path, as the immortal storyteller Joseph Campbell tells us, “doors will appear where there were once only walls.” In this sense, storytelling is our shared human birthright, and the oldest, most effective tool that we have for designing a better world.
