People & Culture Teams Storytelling Workshop

Articulate your purpose, humanize values & develop belonging by thinking like a storyteller.

How will engagement improve when you think like a storyteller?

We all know the difference between values that inspire great work and values that are just words written on a wall. Or visions that drive engagement versus those weighed down by corporate jargon. As the role of HR leadership transforms from managing problems to inspiring purpose, meaning and belonging, People & Culture leaders need to learn to think like storytellers to create messages that resonate.

Our storytelling workshop for People & Culture teams is designed to upskill your approach to strategic communication. Anyone can teach you public speaking. We show you a methodological approach to approaching storytelling as a process. You’ll learn to design the right narrative, simplify your message and inspire others, no matter whether you’re speaking to employees, candidates, stakeholders or decision-makers.

Our People & Culture teams storytelling workshop is a fun, safe, facilitated session for you to apply big ideas to your real work. You’ll walk away with tactics, tools and — most importantly — the shift in mindset that will lead to more emotionally engaging communication. You’ll improve how you connect with your audiences and inspire belief and authentic transformation.

Who I’ve Worked With

A People & Culture Team storytelling workshop is a hands-on group experience that will help you tell the real story of company culture that’s infused with purpose and meaning.

What’s in a People & Culture Team Storytelling Workshop?

Learn new ways to present data & optimize emotional engagement

Making a case for change with data often leaves our audience cold. In an HR storytelling workshop, you’ll learn how to find the narrative behind the data point by applying it to your real work.

Design narratives that can shift even old-school perspectives

Changing your communication style often means first bringing old-school stakeholders on board. In a storytelling workshop, you’ll turn applied empathy for stakeholders to translate the business case so it resonates.

Make authentic connections with employees, stakeholders and executives

You already know that soft skills are the hard currency of the future of work. Lead the change by being it, and practicing your own ability to inspire, motivate & connect.

Jordan Bower Storytelling Consultant

  • It was a great experience for all. Even the skeptics! We all walked away with concrete improvements and I have seen many put the lessons to work in their everyday interactions to be more effective and influential.

  • It was fun, interesting and informative. I know how to tell a story now, and how to improve someone’s story so I can pull it out of them and make them feel like a great story teller. I truly think it will benefit me in my career long term.

  • This course helped me through understanding how I can make a difference in communicating my story, engaging my audience and identifying who I can help. Great learning that can be implemented right away and every day.

Learn how to transform dry professional messages into emotionally engaging, credibility-enhancing stories that resonate.

  • This workshop is delivered in person to HR and People & Culture  teams all over the world. There are one-day and two-day versions of the workshops.

There are two goals for this workshop. One is to help you improve 1 or 2 strategic stories that are directly related to your work, so you can learn by doing. The second goal is to give you tangible storytelling tactics, as well as a process for building a compelling story.

View our Storytelling workshops page section “Storytelling Training Customized For Your Team” to see how we tailor the workshop to your goals and outcomes. Though every session is different, workshops tend to include equal amounts of structured learning, hands-on practice & facilitated conversation.

  • This engaging and interactive workshop will teach you to think of storytelling as the basic building block of human understanding. Rather than teaching you the “right” way to tell a story, in this workshop, you and your team will use storytelling to analyze the psychology, engagement and empathy aspects of how you communicate, through your specific strategic lens.

By understanding how to apply these two tools, you’ll be able to gradually build up your storytelling skills, on your own, over time. This powerful storytelling workshop will give you the scaffolding you need to become a great business storyteller.

  • Yes!

Before the session begins, we’ll help you identify one type of “story” for each team member to workshop. For example, organizational stories about products and strategies, shared team stories about case studies and customer successes, or personal stories about your individual values in action.

The workshop is built around giving you the tools and tactics you need to improve how you deliver these stories. After learning basic storytelling concepts, you will use those tools to analyze the way you’re currently telling your story. You will then work in pairs and small groups to implement what you’ve learned, receive peer coaching and feedback.

  • the goal of this workshop is to teach you the process behind crafting a great story and guiding you to apply it to your real work.

Focusing on process gives us the opportunity to teach you and your team to fish. Focusing on process also enables you to receive a more significant outcome than just one well-told story. As you workshop storytelling, you’ll get personalized coaching that will apply broadly to the way you communicate, as well as instructional tools you can use to continue practice once the session is gone.

The point is to help you become more engaging and authentic in your sales communication. The workshop structure demonstrates this idea, using famous examples, videos and other engaging exercises, making it into a story you’ll keep telling once the day is done.

  • Yes! This storytelling workshop directly addresses using data in presentations, speeches and other forms of communication. Participants will get a methodology, toolkit and tactics for finding the narrative behind a data point, improving how you deliver presentations, reports and insights.

Rather than give you a template, we teach you the right way to think about using your data. Contact us for more information about our storytelling with data.

We’ve also worked with groups beyond this range. Contact us and we can find a solution that suits your specific needs.

  • Most storytelling training is delivered in person. However, we have made accommodations for remote teams by using video conferencing software like Zoom.

  • Our clients book between 6 and 12 weeks in advance of a storytelling workshop. Sometimes we can accommodate shorter timelines. Contact us to discuss your specific dates.

  • The secret to great storytelling is practice. One goal of these workshops is to ritualize the practice behaviors that will help your group slowly develop your storytelling competencies over time. You’ll leave the workshop with plenty of ideas, resources and commitments that will lay the foundation for your growth and give you clear next steps.

We often treat an initial workshop like a first date. Once we’ve gotten to know each other and experienced the content, we often support clients with further workshops, coaching and consulting on their team or organization’s strategic narratives.
